Eurovision Neighbours

So it’s almost that time of year again. The night when Europe sings it’s little heart out. I have to admit I’m not a big fan, I don’t usually watch the Eurovision but I do always look up who wins. It seems to me that winning is about two things, the spectacle and how many neighbours you have.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it seems to me that it’s less about a good song now and more about who puts on the best show, dancers, lighting etc. Ireland has won in previous years with songs like “The Voice” and “Hold Me Now” but would these songs stand a chance these days when up against countries who seem to put more into gimmick than lyrics? We, of course, seem to have joined in on this method this year with Dustin flying the flag.

There also seems to be an issue with neighbours voting for neighbours. We always give the UK a vote least it look like we’re being anti-British! I think this holds throughout the continent with many countries giving points to their closest neighbours.

So is it really a song competition anymore?

Whatever it is it’s usually a good laugh and everyone seems to be in good spirits leading up to it, so for that I’m grateful. Let’s hope Dustin qualifies for the final so we can all enjoy a good night on Saturday.
