Madina Desi Curry

May 28th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Up until last year I was under doctor’s orders not to eat Indian food due to some stomachiness. After getting the all clear, on the proviso I don’t “eat that blow your head off stuff, I don’t want you in here blaming me”, I’m back eating Indian.

And oh my god; how did I survive?????  In the words of a great woman - NYOM

Now that I’m over the feast after the famine when I would have eaten a deep-fried mars bar if there was naan bread with it, my taste in Indian has become more discerning. I think.

I can honestly say the best, the absolute best, Indian in Dublin is Madina Desi Curry on Mary Street.

Now, it you like your Indian in a restaurant this ain’t the place for you. Madina Desi Curry is a cafe with no alcohol on offer.

Still with me? Well if that doesn’t put you off, heaven awaits. The best indication of the quality of an ethnic cafe/restaurant is how many people of that ethnicity are eating there. In Madina Desi, I’m usually the only Irish person. Seriously, it’s that good.

The menu is full of things any Indian lover will be used to seeing Balti, Jalfrezi, Boona, Korma and so on all of which you can order mild, medium or hot.

My personal favoutite is Chicken Boona, no it’s the Chicken Karahi. Oh the decisons…. Karahi I think.

All of the meat dished are serves with the meat still on the bone ensuring you get the best and most moist cut. It is cooked until tender and falls off the bone as soon as lifted.

My partner is a veggie and a lover of Bombay Aloo. Having sampled it all over Dublin, she can attest to the fact the Desi’s is the best. Plenty of spicy sauce to lap up with naan after eating the spuds wich are booked to tender perfection.

My mouth is watering just things about Desi,

  1. I went here a while ago and loved the place but the chicken korma was a little too authentic for me :)
It wasn’t chicken breast, it was a chicken that had been cut up and the bones left in, this made it a little messy.
My friend got a kebab which was totally dry?

I’d give the place another go though, staff were lovely and the place was great
