Movie Posters

These days films are all about big bucks – well Hollywood films are anyway! It’s about filling the cinemas and winning the war on opening weekend. I’m not sure if they even care if you like the film, sometimes I think that they feel like making a good trailer and putting up an eye catching poster is enough to “get them in the seats”. So I can imagine that movie moguls in the states see the commercial and the poster for a film as extremely important for these reasons, and spend quite a lot of money in having the best of both.
One thing that comes from this is some really good posters for films. I think the first time a poster for a film really caught my eye was the poster for Star Wars Episode One, as a nerd, I really loved it as it just said everything! There have been some really great posters over the years and you can have a look through some of them here.
“Jaws” has to be a real classic, the minute you see that picture you hear the music in your head and it only means one thing. “The Seven Year Itch” is another classic and I really like the one for “The Shawshank Redemption” too.
All in all, in these days of everyone wanting to know everything in the blink of an eye, having a poster that says so much is vital to capture people’s interests. Never has it been more true that a picture really does speak a thousand words.

Ooh good topic. I completely love the posters for the new Batman flick, The Dark Knight. They’re very accomplished style-wise and packed with originality and menace.
