iTUNES

So the new wave is upon us. No more CD’s, we buy our music on line, store it on our PC and listen to it on our mp3 players. I remember when we had records and then tapes and then CD’s came in and we had to re-buy everything. Now it’s all about iTUNES.

I moved recently and treated myself to a laptop, the main reason for getting it, other than blogging that is, was to store and sort out my music. I have to admit that the whole thing makes me feel about 180 years old but I’m managing. I am a fan of iTUNES, it’s so easy to use. Recently I outdid myself by using the “complete my album” function, this is when you want to buy an album but you already have a few songs from it so rather than buying the whole thing the software just downloads the songs your missing, for a slightly reduced price. I was very proud of myself. It even asks you if you want to back up your new album and if you say yes it even opens the CD drive for you… what next? Will it make me a cuppa and do my ironing?

I still have to get into PODcasts but for now I’m happy enough to be able to buy the song I want and put it on my iPOD. It also keeps telling me that there’s a new version of iTUNES available and asking me to download it but heavens above, what if I can’t use that version? Disaster would insue. What next for the music industry? Chips you implant in your ear and all you have to do is think of a song and hey presto?

I find iPHONEs most intimidating, I think I’ll stick to one device does one thing for now. Not to be old fashioned but if I had an iPHONE I’d spend my life worrying about it being stolen or broken, it’s not worth the stress.

  1. Just be careful when you hook your iPod up to your iTunes. When you plug the iPod in, a seriesof check boxes pops up. Make sure you tick the one that says Manually manage music, or else it’ll just wipe what’s on your iPod and install what’s on your iTunes instead. Of course if that’s what you want, then that’s fine. In which case I’m just confusing you.
    I’ll get me coat…

  2. I can’t warm to itunes at all! I’m being stubborn and sticking to my Creative Zen!

  3. I have to say, I’m personally opposed to iTunes (and this is from someone typing on a Mac, so it’s not bias, I promise!). The problem is, that I have an Archos music player/hard-drive, and for any .aac files it tells me to purchase software to listen to my own music! And then on the other hand, any .wma (or whatever they’re called) files on my Archos won’t be played on iTunes. And do you think there are free music players out there for Mac OSX? Not on your nelly.

    Gah!!

It almost makes me long for the days of CDs..
