CSI’s new Boss

I have to say I really love one hour crime programmes. From Law and Order to Criminal Minds, I really enjoy them. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is one of the most popular, and although I’m not a big fan of the Miami or New York spin offs, I am a big fan of the original CSI, set in Las Vegas and staring William Petersen. I know it can be a bit hammy, and lord knows the actors should be shown how to work in a lab – the pipetting for one thing – good God! Anyway, I really like it and I enjoy the main character, Gil, a lot. He’s not your average American TV star. He doesn’t have the classic look, walk or charisma of the likes of Christopher Meloni or Shemar Moore but he’s realistic and is the one character on TV that never seems to jump to conclusions.
Unfortunately William Petersen has said he is leaving the show so the hunt for a replacement character and actor is on. It seems that, according to Reuters, Laurence Fishburne is heading the race at the moment with Eric Stoltz, Treat Williams and even Kevin Bacon being reported in various places as being on the list. I have also seen reports that John Malkovich was offered the role but turned it down – link.
It seems that the new character has the same profile as a serial killer but has never acted on this. In other words, he’s trying to discover if he could be a serial killer so he wants to study real killers to try to understand himself! Sounds odd, I know, but I think it has great potential.
Let’s hope whoever gets the part does a good job cause I for one really want to continue enjoying the show. He will be unveiled in episode 9!
