Tonight, and for one night only! Filmbase in Dublin is the venue tonight for art auction, “The Meat Factory”, presented by Butcher Queers: Girls, Boys, Art, Pleasure.

I’m eager to get to see the works on display, as firstly they include a couple of not-so-well-known names alongside some that may be more recognisable: included are works by the fabulous Panti, Ronan Healy, Daniel Holfeld, Chris Sutton, Logan McLain, Tag, Adrian + Shane, Katherine Lynch, Will St Leger, Garvan Gallagher, Wolf Boy, Canvaz, Maser and more.

Secondly, the exhibition was originally scheduled to take place during Pride celebrations, but had to be cancelled at the last minute (and I would never for a moment suggest that Filmbase had double-booked the venue and told TMF’s organisers to take a hike. No siree bob), so this is a while over-due.

The artists are a mix of photographers, illustrators and street artists, so I’m anticipating something a bit different to the likes of established artists who may exhibit in the commercial galleries or in the art-establishment-bastion, the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy).

Perhaps a queer Bad Art Gallery (or not - please don’t hurt me if that offends!), I think the auction promises to certainly be unique, not least given that Butcher Queers “is a left field magazine that celebrates the best of Irish queer culture, writing, photography and art”. Personally, I can’t wait.

Butcher Queers are putting on an exhibition and silent auction of work donated to us by some of our favorite artists. Proceeds will go towards printing cost of the next issue of Butcher Queers.

The exhibition takes place on Thursday 7th August in Film Base, Curved Street, Temple Bar, Dublin.
