I had heard on the grapevine that there were myriad things to see and do at Panti Bar each night, but to my shame it was only last week that my lovely lady friend introduced me to the wonders of The Panti Show on Thursday nights. We were so impressed, that we decided to return again this evening, wondering if it could live up to last week’s high standards.

And it did!

No re-hashing of worn-out numbers for our fabulous Pandora ‘Panti’ Bliss and her entourage, oh no. This week we were treated to a fabulous mix of comedy, drama, classic anthems (Bonnie Tyler - check! Aretha Franklin - check!), some re-workings of familiar tunes. Good clean fun is catered for in the form of everyone’s favourites pictionary and Connect Four. (Take that, homosexual stereotypes!) ..And I believe - imbibed pints notwithstanding - that there may have been puppets involved, too.. No, really..!

Special mention must go to the fabulous Bunny - winner of Panti’s P.A. - and also to Bertha Defect and the child genius Blanaid McGee. Panti and Bunny opened the show with a deeply, deeply moving rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”; Bertha Defect shared with us her take on that Bible-basher’s “I Kissed a Girl” and later advised us that she has an Angry Inch; we witnessed an emotional tour de force by Panti and Bunny re-enacting a scene from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Oh, and there was even time for a singular interpretation of the genius that is Twink (and no, readers, we don’t mean that kind of twink).

Judging by the full house this week and last (don’t expect to get a seat unless you install yourself at 5pm!), word is rapidly spreading of this quality and entertaining drag show which Dublin’s gay scene has been lacking until now. See you there next Thursday!

The Panti Show is on every Thursday at 10pm in Panti Bar, Capel Street, Dublin 1.

  1. I love Panti - she’s just the best. Fair play to her for making such a go of the bar, the scene really needed it and I hope this Thursday night really takes off

  2. Fab review!
but aw here - I didn’t know that about Katie Perry, I liked that song…

  3. Has anyone been to the ‘Make & Do Do’ night on a Monday in Panti Bar? I know, it sounds totally lame but it’s such a laugh. Basically it arts and crafts night, all the materials are provided and Panti gives you a theme (the night I was there it was ‘things you’re afraid of’) and gives you about an hour to make whatever you like. Then you submit your ‘creation’ for judging and good-natured ridicule by Panti and there’s prizes and stuff for the winners. Well worth a visit with a group of friends, a good laugh on a Monday night. I love Panti!!
