The Ricoh Women’s British Open was on over the weekend and I got to see a few hours of the final day. It was really entertaining with the women at the top swapping places a few times. I was up for Shin from Korea as she’s just so happy all the time when she plays, and while other players showed their grumpy side, she just kept smiling through her final round, even when great putts decided to sit on the lip of the cup.

She started the day joint leader with Fudoh of Japan, and they were joined at one point by Tseng of Thailand, but it was Shin who proved the most consistent. Last years winner, Ochoa of Mexico, did well but ended up 7 shots behind Shin on 11 under.

It was an interesting last round and kept you watching. Unfortunately it was on a digital channel so not everyone had the opportunity to see it, which is a shame. I blogged before about women in sport and the lack of TV coverage, it really is a pity. Hopefully it will turn around and more people will support these athletes.

The day was also significant as it marked the last open for the great Annika Sorenstam, may she be successful in whatever she does, what a world class player she was.
