A Week of Gaelife
Sep 27th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: This and ThatUndoubtedly the story which garnered the most column inches, this week, was Lindsey Lohan ‘coming out’ about her relationship with DJ Sam Ronson. There were, however, plenty of other lesbians making the papers in last seven days.
Monday
All lesbians and women who love women know how special we are. In Nepal, though, they’ve gone to great lengths to make their citizens feel special by creating a third gender classification for us. What’s next? A nice badge to wear? May I suggest in the shape of a pink or black triangle? Although, the local lgbt community seem to think it’s a positive step in at least recognising they exist.
My favourite story if the week is this wonderful piece of journalism. That headline wins my weekly F’narr Award.
Tuesday
While Lindsey Lohan’s Dad was getting to grips with his daughter’s choice of toilet roll provider, there were more pressing issues in the news. New legislation in Austraila means that lesbian parents can both be named on their children’s birth certs. It’s not just about the pieve of paper, though, these new rights are the first step in New South Wales lesbian parents been seen as equal. However, this article says that this is only the case if the child/children has been conceived through artificial insemination, ignoring millions of other families.
There was some good news, though, with the announcement that there will be more lgbt peeps on the telly this season. Now, we’re talking American TV here so these shows may never make it over here. Having said that, British TV has traditionally been better for gay visibility than their counterparts in the US, so we’ll watch and hope.
Sarah Palin’s a card. The woman is like a cartoon Republican. You may ask how on earth she nabbed the job of Vice Prez candidate. Seems it’s all because people still think Condie Rice is a muff diver. I can’t comment having never seen her shoes.
Speaking of all things American, the 51st state, Iraq, suffered a huge loss in its lgbt community today. Bashar, a 27 year old lgbt leader was assassinated today. RIP. I have absolutely no terms of reference for what it must take to live openly gay
in a country like that and my heart breaks that a hero like him has been lost.
One woman who hasn’t seen the inside of a closet in years, is our heroine of the week, Kerry Fletcher. The 32 year old, former Lance Bombardier (sounds like a character in an American soap), is suing the Ministy for Defense after she reportedly was forced to resign following sexual harassment from a staff sergeant. Go girl!
Lindz was back in the press too. The funniest thing about the Lindsey Lohan story is watching the striaght gutter press look for angles to keep the story alive. We had Mr Lohan and his toilet paper and then we had this gem. Cher Tippetts, who wrote the piece, is obviously straight. Nuff said.
Thursday
This story showed that the good people of Clovis are making sure bigotry is kept alive and well. Don’t be proud, be invisible is the message
On a sad note, the first ever gay Pride Festival in Bosnia suffered attacks from homophobic parts of the crowd. It begs the question, what can we do? Is there any avenue we can use to show support to the Pride marchers and dissent to the attackers? Let us know…
Friday
British Treasury minister Angela Eagle married her partner of 18 years today. Congrats ladies. Don’t you just love the way they describe the ’suits’, desperately trying to see who’s the man and who’s the woman? They’re both the woman idiot! That’s the point!
As always, all images are used in good faith and without any implying any infringement. if they need to be removed, just let me know and it’ll be done.

How hot is Kerry Fletcher…hope she takes the Ministry for Defence for all they have!
