That’s So…

American stars Hilary Duff and Wanda Sykes have involved themselves in a series of advertisements that encourage teens to choose their words more carefully.

“That’s so gay” is a phrase heard virtually everywhere that is frequented by teens. It’s supposed to describe something as being crap or rubbish (or as the Americans say, bad). I’m not sure how effective the ads will be in the States (does Sykes appeal to the youth? Isn’t Duff a bit naff or outmoded these days?) Anyway, have a gander and see what you think.

TV cartoon show The Simpsons has been criticised by a gay advocacy group after a character used the word ‘gay’ to mean ‘bad’ or ‘rubbish.’

The show, one of the longest-running in TV history, is normally very supportive of the gay community, and even featured an episode where same-sex marrige was legalised in the town of Springfield.
