I’m a homosexual, get me out of here!
I wouldn’t usually associate myself with the likes of this, but the contestants for I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! were recently announced. Seems like this year, it’s choc-full of the gays: Brian Paddick; George Takei; and the fabulous Martina Navratilova.
If you don’t know who Martina “Labels are for jars” Navratilova is, you’re either some form of extra terrestrial, or you’re five. Still, to summarise, she has won nearly every tennis tournament there is; she was born Czechoslovakian, defected to the U.S. and became a citizen of that country, and recently has also had her Czech citizenship restored; she is a political activist in relation to several issues, including animal rights, children’s rights and gay rights. And she’s a pescetarian (fnarr). Oh, and she’s also the fearless leader of lesbians everywhere. Seriously..
Nerds of the world (“…spice up your life!” – sorry) will be familiar with the baratone of George “Sulu” Takei, who guided the original Starship Enterprise from one adventure to another. He also recently married his beau (aww..) in California, before crazy religious campaigners mis-led the public into voting for a ban on same-sex marriage.
Brian Paddick may be the less well-known amongst our gay adventurers – for some reason, he’s on a programme which purports to be about “Celebrities”, even though he’s a former copper and now is seek to pursue a successful political career in the UK as a member of the Liberal Democrats. Then again, this is a programme which purports to be about “Celebrities”, so..
..Anyhoo, if you’re interested in following the endeavours of the aforementioned quares, the first episode is starting tomorrow, 16th November 2008, on UTV at 9pm where the celebrities “face a terrifying journey before reaching camp, where one must undergo the first of the Bushtucker Trials”. Nice. Also, keep track on the ITV website, if you’re that way inclined.
