Gloria Live – St Anne’s Church – Dawson Street
Last night I left work and met my friend at St Anne’s Church on Dawson Street. We were there at 6pm as tickets for Gloria‘s “Breath of Heaven” concert were being handed out. We took our share and headed off to do some Christmas shopping and get a bite to eat before the show started at 8pm. I heard later that all the tickets were gone by 6.15pm so I’m glad we managed to get there on time!
I’m a big fan of Gloria, I always go to their Christmas Carol evening and also to their Pride show, I’ve never been disappointed as their concerts are always entertaining and moving. Last night was no different, they sang hymns much as “Silent Night” and “Away in a Manger” as well as some songs such as “Breath of Heaven” and a very funny rewording of “The 12 Days of Christmas”. Even though my three friends and I ended up perched in the top of the upstairs balcony, unable to see a thing, we still enjoyed every last note.
The highlight for me had to be when a quartet of choir members, two men and two women, joined us upstairs and sang from the Gods a wonderful version of “Oh Holy Night”, it was beautiful and if I could have hit rewind I would have listened to it over and over again. Well done to all four of them, they were magnificent.
As always Gloria did not charge in but had a charitable collection. This year the money collected, after paying the choirs running costs, is going to be split in two. Half going to the “Gay Switchboard” and the other to “Marraige Equality“, two very worthy causes I’m sure you’ll agree.
The whole concert was thoroughly enjoyable and followed by the traditional mince pies and wine. The choir are set to do it all again on Thursday, December 18th so if you missed it last night I highly recommend you take yourself off to Dawson Street on Thursday and that you get there early so as not to be disappointed.

I’m also going to put in a little plug for Gloria’s on-line shop, if you don’t know what to get that music lover in your life why not have a little look here, or even make someone a Friend of Gloria
