RTE Radio
Earlier in the month RTE’s digital radio began broadcasting the county’s first programme specifically aimed towards the country’s gay community. The show is on The Pulse and is called “The Cosmopolitan”. Scott De Buitléir hosts the show every Wednesday evening from 8pm, according to the website the show will provide “plenty of information and news for the LGBT communities around Ireland and all you need to know about all the latest LGBT events“.
The show also has a bebo page for those of you who like to get all your news and views through the web.
The good news doesn’t end there however, RTE’s Choice are also set to broadcast an international show aimed at the gay community, they are calling this one “This Way Out“. This show will also be on at 8pm but on a Saturday night.
I must admit I don’t listen to the radio that much, I tend to use my iTRIP in the car, but I’m going to remember these two shows and will tune in when I get a chance. I think it’s wonderful to see RTE making an effort to provide information etc to the community. Here’s hoping the shows get a wide audience and RTE keep them going well into the future.
The Indo have an interesting article on this development, quoting the Pulse scheduler as saying the programme is “history in the making”.
If anyone has tuned in to date, please let us know what you think of these shows – do they provide a service? what can be improved ect.
