The Hollywood Chart

The L Word has a lot to answer for. Yes, we all know that lesbians tend to enjoy the company of those in their circle to the extent that pretty much everyone has slept with everyone else and/or their ex. However, The L Word aired that piece of dirty laundry to the world.

It seems, however, that it’s not just true of shagging in real life. It’s also true of on-screen affairs. It’s like six degrees of sapphication.

Let’s start with Evan Rachel Wood. After playing a young teen ‘coming to terms with her sexuality’ in the hugely under-rated Once and Again, she snogged her mate in 13 and is now playing Mickey Rourke’s lesbian daughter in the up-coming The Wrestler (out Jan 23).

From her we travel to her Once and Again screen-love, Mischa Barton. As well as the cute as a kitten Katie who wooed Jessie, Mischa played a teenager ‘coming to terms with her sexuality’ in Lost and Delirious. She was also a lesbian for at least five minutes in The OC and will play one half of a girl-couple who meet and fall in love at a t.A.T.u concert (seriously) in You and I.

And on we go. Mischa’s co-star and on-screen lesbo in Lost and Delirious, Piper Perabo, played a 20-something ‘coming to terms with meeting Lena Headey’ in the yummy Brit flick, Imagine Me and You. She did prove immune to the charms, and dancing in leather pants, of one Bridget Moynahan in Coyote Ugly so she can do straight too apparently.

Bridget Moynahan did, however, have Heather Graham fall madly in love with her in Gray Matters. They had the old straight girl/girl ‘coming to term with her sexuality’ kiss but nothing more. Although, there is that bath scene now that I think of it. Plus our Heather shagged Rachel Shelley, or Helena Peabody from The L Word.

Oh, Coyote Ugly now that you mention it, also featured Melanie Lynskey who starred rather scarily as one half of a psychotic couple of pre-teens ‘coming to terms with their murderous insanity’ in Heavenly Creatures, as well as Alice’s new love in The L Word.

And then we come full circle to our Alice. Leisha Hayley not only stole hearts on stage before doing so on The L Word, but also when she helped Claude ‘come to terms with her sexuality’ in the 90′s indie film, All Over Me.

Help me out, have I missed anyone?
