Westboro Baptist Church announce their first anti-gay picket in the UK where they will protest at a 6th Form College. Why? The college is staging a production of The Laramie Project, a play which depicts gay teenager Matthew Shepard who was tortured and murdered in America in 1998.

Margaret Atwood decides to pull out of the Dubai International Festival of Literature in a show of support after another author is disinvited to the event. Geraldine Bedell’s book “The Gulf Between Us” contains a minor character who happens to be gay, a gay Sheikh to be exact. “”I do not want our festival remembered for the launch of a controversial book”.

LGBT Noise organised a protest against the Civil Partnership Bill outside Central Bank in Dublin on Valentine’s Day. I would post an online newspaper article on the event but I can’t find one. What does that say?! Instead I’ll link you to Panti’s call to arms.

The LGBT Noise protest made SIX ONE news on Valentine’s Day (http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0214/6news.html..See approx 1 minute into the section, ‘Love is in the air..’). Thats actually quite impressive. Print media is notoriously hard to get for events held late (2pm) on a Saturday. Quick mis-informed judgments do nothing to help the gay community as a whole.
