A Suppa Earl Gae

Now that I’ve crawled out from under the birthday hangover, tis time to to don my Anne Doyle GLBT news hat and see what the world has on offer for us this week. To be fair, my fellow colleagues have been all over the place with updates from Slayer’s exposing AmazonFail to Hal telling us all about how Lindsay is just looking for someone to love her for who she is.

Bear got herself into a tizzy over lawnmowers whilst click here explained in refreshingly straight-forward terms gay marriage in Ireland.

So that’s what’s been going down with the fellow Gaelickers, what about the rest of the big ole gay world.

I couldn’t make this headline up if I tried :Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean defends anti-gay-marriage remarks Oh Carrie, when will you learn? Did no-one warn you about Evil Perez and his way with words? He can mix you up and confuse you only to make you you say what you really think, costing you your crown? I await the true life movie with baited breath. Any suggestions for titles?

Over in Nepal, Dil Kumari Buduja, BDS coordinator for the lesbian community has been helping lesbians get wed.

‘This is the second lesbian marriage that I am organising in three days,’ said Dil.

Buduja, who prefers to call herself Badri, last year contested the election as gays went to the hustings openly for the first time, along with transgenders and eunuchs.

Last week, Badri helped two Nepali women, both in their late 30s, ‘tie the knot’ in Chitwan district in south Nepal

On with the glad rags and over to Los Angeles for the 20th Annual GLAAD awards.

Jennifer Beals, who recently wrapped her series, The L Word, sparkled in a yellow David Meister dress, and said that the most important thing she learned about starring in a show about lesbian women is that homophobia is a form of misogyny.

“I think that it’s incredibly important to bring as much visibility to these stories as we can,” she said. “The truth is the way in which we’re similar is much more numerous than the way in which we’re different. For me it’s been an incredible education and I’ve been exposed to so many women’s issues. The fans of our show are diverse and it tells me that women understand that it’s not just about being gay. This also is about being a woman and the ways that gay women are repressed is very similar to the way that women are repressed in general. “

* sigh * We love you Jennifer.

The bisexual ‘debate’ continues to rage. Violet Blue over at sfgate asks;
The question is, when is bisexuality an agenda, and when is it a valid sexual orientation?
So from the gay agenda to the bisexual agenda? What is it with us and our agendas? Where do we find the time to campaign/protest/live our regular lives if we are up to our necks with agendas?

It’s a really good article if you take the time to read it and among the many excellent and valid points she makes are:

Straight people think girls are “experimenting” and it’s acceptable. When they grow up to be women and declare their real, true bisexuality everyone gets all uncomfortable and wishes they’d just hurry up and choose a side already. Lesbians call them traitors or want to convert or bag them (trust me on this one), while straight dudes think it’s hot as long as he’s not threatened he’s going to be replaced by a woman with masculine traits.

It was interesting to see “Burning Man” turn up in both male and female bisexual assumption/stereotype charts. Coulda hit that dust-crusted target with my eyes closed. It was truly fascinating to see “father” come up in “straight male” but not in “gay male” and “soccer mom” in “straight female” but nothing mom-like in “lesbian.”

We always try to end on something positive or quirky here at suppa so this ad initially caused us all to sit back and go WTF? I mean what did we expect from the people who called themselves The National Coalition for Marriage?

There have been many responses to this, some hilarious, our fav here on Gaelick has to be this one from the heads over at Funnyordie. Classic and I am loving Jane Lynch at the end :)

  • Carrie Prejean deserves to have her crown. She is beauiful and is also entitled to her own opinion about gays. ,
