A ‘Kiss’ goodbye?

Whispers overheard on the Dublin scene over the weekend indicated that long-standing lesbian night out, Kiss, has shut up shop due to the host venue, the Tivoli, closing down. According to Kiss’ Bebo page (The club night doesn’t have its own website or page):

We are sorry to say that KISS will be closed for the near future, due to circumstances beyond our control the Tivoli has closed. We are looking into a new venue and hope to be up and running again soon.

So it sounds like the club could be back shortly once a new venue has been secured. This little hiccup is something the club is likely to overcome. Since its inception in 2003, it has led a nomadic lifestyle and has previously been housed in Vicar Street and the Temple Bar Music Centre (now The Button Factory). But for May 2009, Kiss is off.

For lady-lovin’ social butterflies in the Dublin area looking for something to do this month, fear not! There are two events coming up this Friday, May 15th:

Lesbania’s Got Talent, The Sugar Club, Lwr. Leeson Street, Dublin 2
Doors: 8pm; Adm: €10

A fundraising lesbian talent contest for the upcoming ALAF (A Lesbian Arts Festival) 2009 is taking place this Friday in The Sugar Club. The night is hosted by the inimitable Gringo O’Hara and anyone who fancies taking a shot at the crown can enter by emailing tracygringo@hotmail.com. More details at www.alafireland.com.

Body Language, upstairs in Twisted Pepper, Middle Abbey Street
Doors: 10pm; Adm: Free in before 11pm, €8 after

A new monthly club night is also being launched on May 15th.  More details can be found on the club’s Facebook page. The club is a place for gals and their male friends. Elektrik DJs, curlee and Sinead Deevy, will be playing “the sweetest cuts of deep, funky, vocal house and electro” according to the club’s page.
