Review: Greetings from Jamaica, Wish You Were Queer
If you’re looking for something easy, fun and quick to read on your holliers this year, you could do much worse than Mari SanGiovanni’s debut.
Our heroine, Marie, is starting to think that she may be just as nuts as her crazy, American Italian family. She has started obsessing over Hollywood actress, Lorn Elaine and is in a relationship which died years ago. It’s only when she inherits her aunt’s millions that things start to get even more insane,
To get her family to talk, stop bickering and maybe get along for five minutes, she brings them to a five star resort in Jamaica. There’s a catch though, her favourite actress is there too and the pair are starting to hit it off.
Greetings from Jamaica, Wish You Were Queen reads like a screenplay, it whips along at a gallop but doesn’t feel rushed. You’ll be snorting into your cuppa all the way through as Mari describes family members we’ve all encountered and family events we wish we could forget.
Pack this one into your suitcase and chill out.
