Alainn or Appalling – Miriam O’Callaghan

miriamoWith her new show starting this week, we felt it the perfect time to highlight the force of nature that is Miriam O’Callaghan. In her 49 years on the planet, Miriam has had two husbands, eight children and has hassled more than her fair share of politicians. Yet she still manages to have the sexiest legs in Ireland.

Miriam moved to London when she was 22 and began working as a researcher for This Is Your Life, before heading over to the Beeb’s flagship news programme, Newsnight with Jeremy Paxman.

She graced our shores in 1993 to present Marketplace and, from there went on to bigger and better things, when she got the slot on Prime Time in 1996, a job she has blossomed in, making her synonymous with hard-hitting “answer the question Minister” interviews.

While doing all of that, she still managed to raise the four daughters she had with her first husband, adopt her niece when her sister died, and then have three more children. Good Irish mammy.

She also runs her own television company, “Mint Productions”, with her second husband, Steve Carson. The company has produced documentaries on Pádraig Pearse, Charles Haughey, and, most recently, on Bertie Ahern. According to Wikipedia, the pair have another programme in production, based on O’Callaghan’s career, tentatively named “Mutton dressed as Mutton”.

Miriam is also famous for managing to look fabulous while not caring (or pretending not to care) about her appearance. So, what do you think? Alainn or Appalling?
