Janet thats a fair point, and you are clearly smart enough not to assume that all gay people are like Bruno. However, what worries me is all the random straight people who don't know any gay people, and have pre conceived stereoptyped notions of gay men and what they are like, will all find those notions thoroughly reinforced after seeing Bruno.

Take a gang of Dublin teenage boys going to see it - what if one of them is worried about being gay? He will definitely have problems coming out if all his mates equate being gay with Bruno...

Hi Janet. See I get where you're coming from but I have to say I was insulted watching it. I know the thought behind it is that it's just fun and I agree with that. But this is the only gay character we have onscreen at the moment, so there is noone telling people that this isn't "a comment on the gay community".

But then this film wan't made for someone like me, it's just not my thing. So maybe I do have a chip on my shoulder, in fairness. Here's my review.

bruno is merely a character in a film. the fact that he happens to be a gay character should be of no consequence to the gay community. there have been characters written before who are from a minority group, since when did that mean that every other person from that group is just like that character? just as a character (or indeed person) can be gay and stupid, so too can they be gay and wonderfully intelligent. anyone who believes that this film is making a comment about the gay community as a whole (rather than providing a social insight into the ludicricy of the general public) needs to sort out the chip on their shoulder. i don't see how this is offensive to people and can't understand how someone couldn't find this funny. also, even the smallest amount of research into sascha baron cohen will tell you he is a highly intelligent individual who isn't in the slightest bit homophobic.
