A Night Out for Limerick Pride
Last Friday I headed down to Limerick with two friends to take part in Limerick Pride. You can see our preview here. We drove down to Riddlers to see the MarriagEquality debate and then headed upstairs to the Variety Show. I must admit that this was my first time in Limerick so I was excited to see a piece of the scene there.
Riddlers looks like a small venue from the outside but when you head down the back of the ground floor you arrive at the entrance to a larger room which has stair that lead to yet another room upstairs. In the end it was quite a lagre space. It was in full swing when we arrived and appears to be a community bar that creates a good atmosphere.
The MarriagEquality Q&A was very informative, the title was “A Legal Constitutional and Political Perspective” and it was basically a civil marriage v civil partnership information session. The panal consisted of
Dr. Fergus Ryan, Department Head of Law, DIT
Brian Barrington, Barrister
Moninne Griffith, MarriagEquality
Anna MacCarthy, LGBT Noise
Una Woods, Law Lecturer, University of Limerick
I found it very interesting and was pleased with the attention it was given by a packed bar.
The Variety Show did exactly what it said o the tin and was great fun. We had a few pints and a dance and I have to say that some of the people who took part were brilliant. One guy was so good I thought it was a record being played.
Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the parade on Saturday but I’m sure the positve atmosphere that was felt on Friday spilt over into the rest of the weekend. Congrats to everyone involved.
