Get yer ghastly gargle on!
Oct 30th, 2009 | By click here | Category: Out on the TownToday, lesbians and gentlemen, we shall be exploring the world of Hallowe’en cocktails and mocktails. We start with the mocktails, and below are the cocktails.
Mocktails
Icey Creamy Gore
Actually, this is a recipe called The Berry Patch, but that isn’t very Hallowe’eny. This is an absolutely delicious blended mocktail that uses fresh blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.
Ingredients
* 2 oz fresh blueberries
* 2 oz fresh raspberries
* 2 oz fresh strawberries
* 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
* 1/2 cup milk
Preparation
1. In a blender combine the ice cream, berries and milk.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour into a chilled collins glass.
4. Garnish with fresh berries on top.
Bleeding Heart
Again, this is actually called Berry Sweetheart, according to the internets, but that’s just lame.
Ingredients
* 3 oz red cranberry juice
* 3 oz apple juice
* 1 oz honey
* Maraschino cherry for garnish
Preparation
1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
2. Add the juices and honey to a mixing glass.
3. Stir the ingredients with a barspoon.
4. Pour the contents of the mixing glass into the highball glass.
5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Carrie Fizz
Yes, okay, this is apparently called Cherry Fizz, but honestly, some people have no imagination..
Ingredients
* 1/2 cup frozen cherry juice concentrate, thawed
* 1/2 cup ginger ale
Directions
1. Place cherry concentrate in a glass. Slowly stir in ginger ale.
Zombie Mocktail
This unusual drink isn’t just for Halloween. Allegedly. Drink up whenever you’re in the mood for pineapple, lime, and passion fruit (with a hit of vanilla). Allegedly.
Ingredients
* 2 Tablespoons passion fruit drink syrup
* 1/2 cup pineapple juice
* Splash of lime juice
* Splash of vanilla drink syrup
* Ice
Recipe
Scoop ice into cocktail shaker. Add all other ingredients. Shake until well mixed. Strain into glass.
Garnish
Place lime wedge on rim of glass.
Cocktails
To start: aperitifs
Kir Fatale
Shut up. The Kir Royale is the Kir Fatale for Hallowe’en, and that’s that.
Ingredients
* 9cl (9 parts) champagne
* 1cl (1 part) crème de cassis
Preparation
*Add the crème de cassis to the bottom of the glass, then top up with wine.
The champagne can be replaced with prosecco or white wine.
Aytin’ and drinkin’: cocktails
Sangria
Spanish: sangría; meaning “bloody”.
Ingredients
* Any red wine plonk.
* Chopped or sliced fruit (often orange, lemon, apple, peach, berries, pineapple; occasionally melon, grape, or mango)
* A sweetener such as honey, sugar, simple syrup, orange juice, and/or fruit nectar
* A small amount of added brandy, triple sec, or other spirits.
* And ice and carbonated soda, in some recipes
Or, if you prefer, instead of the sweetner and added spirit, go for a quarter or third of a bottle of sweet vermouth, such as Martini Bianco. Top it off with a third or so of a litre of Club Orange, with a spoon of sugar stirred in to take out the fizz.
Feck it all together in a large bowl or pot. I have no standards.
