Stephen Gately dies aged 33

I was really shocked earlier today to read that Boyzone singer Stephen Gately passed away suddenly while on holiday in Majorca, he was 33 years old. The Spanish police have said that
At the moment it is not known how he died. There are no signs of suspicious circumstances
Stephen Gately married his long time partner Andrew Cowles in a commitment ceremony in Las Vegas in 2003 and in 2006 the couple had a civil partnership ceremony in London. Cowles was on holiday with the singer when the tragedy occured.
Boyzone’s official site states
‘We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more.’
Stephen was not only successful with the band but was also on the West End in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Our thoughts are with his husband and loved ones.

Update: Postmortem shows Gately died from natural causes
A postmortem at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Palma established that the singer suffered a pulmonary oedema, an accumulation of fluid on the lungs.
At a brief court hearing in the island’s capital Palma, a judge said that Mr Gately’s body could be taken home.
