Ugandan ‘Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009’ Proposed

Oct 17th, 2009 | By Gooner | Category: Current Affairs

outrage_ugandaUgandan MP David Bahati is trying to get a bill through that would create a new law against “aggravated homosexuality”.  If this bill becomes law it could lead to some homosexuals being subject to the death penalty.  On October 10th Mr Bahati introduced his ‘Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009’ which proposes that if a person is found guilty of homosexual acts with a person with a disability or any person under 18 years of age they would be executed.  It also says that if a person with HIV/AIDS is found to be having gay sex they should be put to death, interestingly this punishment does not extend to heterosexual sex even if the person is infected.

Homosexual sex is illegal in Uganda but Mr Bahati feels that this new bill is necessary to protect the family.  I think I’ve heard that before! Scott Long, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Rights Program at Human Rights Watch has said:

“This draft bill is clearly an attempt to divide and weaken civil society by striking at one of its most marginalized groups, the government may be starting here, but who will be next?”

It’s bad enough that LGBTQ people are arrested and beaten without taking away even more rights.  I’m sick of people talking about trying to hault the “promotion” of homosexuality, for God’s sake, it makes me sick, as if things aren’t bad enough.

This is very significant, especially since in many African countries homosexuality is so taboo, campaigners frame their debate in terms of freedom of expression and equality.

  • Very good point click here, it is significant and it’s a part of the world where so much work has to be done at a very fundamental level in terms of human right

Does anyone not remember history and and what the Nazi’s did to the Jews, I am not really for the gays either but killing and murder are wrong, it’s thier preference and not mine but killing and murder are against the laws of the world but they still do it, they’re doing just that in Afghanistan and Iraq over ‘religions’ and starting another one in Pakistan. I don’t see at all what is so important in Afghanistan or Iraq or Pakistan when there is nothing there in a country that has a 90 percent unemployment rate, we have a 10.5 percent here and can’t find jobs, Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in Orange County California knows the guy the started this and even knows the President of Uganda and even though he has spoken out against it it has garnered him a lot of Controversy for his ‘Christian’ beliefs, I was just watching a documentary on a different subject matter where it was portraying the Christians as a ‘cult’.
