halloween_pumpkinWhat’s On Guide to Halloween!

It’s that time of the year again, Halloween, one of the three gay Christmases (Halloween, AMI and Pride)! You’d better start getting those costumes ready, because there is a LOT on, and most of them are fancy dress. With prizes. And everyone loves a good prize.

Thursday 29th

PRHOMO is where its at this Thursday. Held in BaseBar on Wicklow St, formerly known as AKA, doors open at 10.30pm. I’d get there early if I were you, as there is free glasses of Green Slime for the first 50 in. A mostly younger/studenty type crowd, it’s great craic and comes with a smoking area. There are fantastic drinks offers too, which always prove to be a big draw. These include: selected shots €2, selected bottles €3 and selected shorts €4. Admission is €5 in with a student card, and €7 without. With a €200 prize for the best costume, what more could you want from a night?! Get those costumes together and be there.

Friday 30th

monster mash zFriday has several things on, so there’s lots of choice available. For the film fanatics among you, there is a ‘Daughters of Darkness’ Film Night as part of d’LAF. It starts from 7.30pm, and the admission fee of €7 includes two cocktails, which is a fantastic offer in my opinion!! This event is being held in the Denzille Private Cinema off Merrion Square, and the film is “Vampyros Lesbos”, which is described on the d’LAF Facebook as a “1970s erotic horror tale about a vixen vampiress seducing and killing women to appease her insatiable thirst for female blood.” Tickets for this event are limited so booking is essential. Bookings can be made by texting “bookmeaseat” and your name to 085 8283621 or by simply emailing info@alafreland.com

If you would prefer to go out dancing, there are two choices available to you. Spice is having a “Scary Spice Halloween Party” in The Dragon from 10pm until late. Admission is free before 10pm, €7 before 11pm and €9 after 11pm, so get there early. The fancy dress theme is strictly horror on the night and there are tons of “tricks, treats and prizes” for people who participate! I would say that this would be a mainly male crowd, as Spice usually is, but fear not because there is a girl’s night on too!

KISS is on in the Academy on Abbey Street from 10pm. The entry fee is €12, with €2 off before midnight. With prizes for the best-dressed, it promises to be a good one with DJ Tina Hart from Belfast on the decks for the night.

Saturday 31st

The place to be on Saturday seems to be the George, who are hosting a “Halloween Screaming Queens Ball” starting from 9pm. The G tends to be absolutely jammers on Halloween though, so get there early or you may not get in with the crowds (speaking from past experience). It’s free in until 11pm, preview_vampire_lesbians1and €10 after. As always, there is Beauty Spot Karaoke from 9pm, with spot prizes. If inside is too crowded for you, Davina and Veda will be having “Craic Out the Back” from 11pm with a midnight truck show which will be featuring Veda, Davina and Mr. Pussy. There are Best Dressed Chest Awards for Best Comedy Costume, Best Concept, Best Horror and Best Drag. DJ Miguel will be spinning in the main room all night with Spanish house music. There are special drinks offers on the night, with selected pints €4, selected shots €2 and bottles of VK Ice for only €3.

Saturday night is also the night of “D’Laf ‘Down & Dirty’ club night” in Melody Bar, starting at 8pm. Its €10 in, and features DJs Saskia, Sally & Goldylox. It is of course Fancy Dress! The night has a dark room, strippers, lap dancing and karaoke.

If that’s not your scene, Partie Monster is having their “Halloween Monster Special” in Rí-Rá, Dame Court with early doors at 10pm. Admission is €5 before 11.30pm and €10 after that. DJs McGint and Mimi will be on the decks, and there will be a make-up artist in the club, as well as toy prizes for best dressed, so be sure to make an effort-the Partie Monster people take their costumes very seriously!!

Outside Dublin

oil-scarreIn Galway, there is a chance to win 2 tickets to see “the one and only mother of all Divas – Whitney Houston” at the Halloween Ball in Chambers on Saturday. The bar will be done up in all its 50’s horror glory so get your most terrifying cozzie on; there will even be a photographer to take your photo. It’s a fiver in  It’s €5 in, with a free drink when you arrive.

The Banner County is also hosting a ghoulishly glorious Halloween night in The West County Hotel in Ennis, Co Clare. This one is an optional fancy dress, but you’ll lose out on the chance to win a prize. Go on, you know you want to.  Entertainment will be provided on the night by two of the Wests finest drag queens, Amanda Cummings and Jane Eyre Square. Doors open at 10.30 and it’s a tenner in, but  students get in for €7.

The gays in Limerick are a funny bunch. One group doesn’t  go in for Halloween and is shirking all things spooky and kooky. On Friday, October 30th DJ Tonic will be spinning the best Mainstream/Funky/Electro House at Eden from 11pm.

In complete contrast, the students in UL can’t wait for the night and are celebrating on Thursday. Riddler’s is the place to be for “a fantastic line up of events, tricks and treats”. Doors open at 8pm in to club 66 where you can will be meet some of Limericks most revered queens. Scary!

As you can see, you have absolutely no excuse to go out and have a ball over the Halloween weekend. The only problem will be trying to decide where to go. See you there!
