Sam Fox

It’s amazing how we all still know who she is, I mean, even I was a kid when she hit the peak of her fame. Top page 3 girl for the Sun newspapers turned pop star turned reality TV regular. Sam Fox is a woman who has managed to retain her icon status in many guises and has always been someone we cheer on no matter what she gets herself into.
Born in 1966 to a family of market traders in the East End of London Samantha Fox was always meant for the stage and screen. She began in school plays as a child and landed her first TV role at the age of 10 in a BBC play. The Sunday People newspapers had a “Face and Shape of 1983″ modelling contest and Sam’s mother took some pictures of her daughter in lingerie and of course, you guessed it, Sam was one of the stars of the competition, eventually coming in as runner up. Not shortly after that she was invited by The Sun to do a test shoot for their page 3 spreads and the rest is history. She was page 3 girl of the year from 1984 and 1986 and even went on to insure her breasts for a reported quarter of a million pounds!
Fox began a successful singing career in the late 80s and had three albums. Her first and most famous song is “Touch Me” which went into the top five both in Britain and the US. She has gone on to do many varied things such as co-present the BRIT awards and present pop promos for MTV in New York.
Sam has been cast into the lime light more recently by taking part in “The Club“, a reality TV show where celebrities manage various bars in a night club to see who can have the most successful area.
In 1994 reports surfaced which said that Fox had become a born-again Christian, when asked how she could marry her topless modelling career with her new found religion she replied:
Easily. God gave me my body. I know it has made many people happy. There is no conflict there. I don’t and have never promoted pornography. I’m not a born-again Christian because I have always been one. I am doing what God wants me to do. My prayer each night is: ‘Let me go my way and make people happy. Let me do the right thing
In 1999 Sam judged a lesbian beauty pageant as it was from this that rumours about her sexual orientation surfaced. At the time, Fox was living with Cris Bonacci, an Australian guitarist with the band Girlschool.
In 2003 when asked about this subject she simply stated:
“But I can’t keep saying, ‘Maybe,’ or denying it. It is time to let people know where my heart is. People keep trying to say I’m a lesbian. I don’t know what I am. All I know is that I’m in love with Myra [Stratton, her manager]. I love her completely and want to spend the rest of my life with her.”
Sam and Myra are still together and in 2008 took part in the reality TV show “Wife Swap” with Freddie Starr and his wife Donna. I saw that episode and I thought these ladies did us proud, it was a great episode.
Currently the ever young Ms Fox can been seen in the 2009 “I’m a Celebrity….Get me out of here“, weeknights at 9.00pm on UTV and TV3.
So what do you make of Sam Fox, is she Alainn or Appalling?

She was great on Wife Swap – herself and Myra were a super cute couple who clearly loved, respected and valued each other. *sigh*
I couldn’t agree with you more slayer, they came across so well and handled the whole show brilliantly.
If I remember “the club” correctly our Sam got a little tipsy a few times – hilarious TV. I remember her dressed as a vampire one of the nights and she got caught in her cape, was gas.
