Cheryl Cole

Dec 6th, 2009 | By Gooner | Category: Alainn or Appalling

Cheryl_ColeNow that The X Factor is almost at its conclusion, it’s time to take a look at one of the judges, none other than Cheryl Cole.  She’s a lot more than a wag you know.  Born Cheryl Tweedy, in Newcastle in 1983 ,this young lady was bound for stardom.  At the tender age of 9 she joined the Royal Ballet’s summer school and was already the winner of some baby and little miss beauty competitions.  Tweedy was also in a few TV commercials but it was in 2002, when she auditioned for PopStars The Rivals, that her life changed.

It was from the public vote that Cole joined Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding to make up the group Girls Aloud.  The band hit number one in the UK with their first attempt, the surpirisinhly good single Sound of the Underground, and it was a sign of things to come – of their first 20 singles all but one made it to the top 10.

Cherly Tweedy became Cheryl Cole when she married professional soccer player Ashley Cole in 2006.

In 2009 the girls decided to take a year out to pursue solo projects and recently Cheryl has released her first album, 3 Words, which went platinum within a couple of weeks.  The single Fight for This Love is the fastest-selling single of 2009 in the UK.  It seems there really is nothing stopping this woman.

However, Cole became a household name, exposed to a much wider audience when she became a judge on the X Factor (the UK’s version of American Idol).  When Sharon Osbourne left after season four, Cole stepped into her shoes and has done a wonderful job.  She even mentored the winning act that year, Alexandra Burke.  This season Cole has been given the boys category, and my favourite contestant, Joe Mc Elderry.

Cheryl has more than held her own with the other judges, even going toe to toe with the ever-vocal Simon Cowell and held her own.  Her exploits on the X Factor have lead the media to christian her “the nation’s new sweetheart” and she looks ready to keep her career moving in the right direction with a contribution to a Girls Aloud biography as well as a cover spread on British Vogue.

So what do you think of this geordie lass?

  • Yeah, I think Alexandra Burke has dropped off the face of the earth – she’s only been in the UK Top 20 singles chart for the last 7 weeks, and is still in the Irish Top 10 singles chart. Hasbeen!

    ; )

In other news, I do have to confess my occassional drooling over Cheryl Tweedy.
