Where to Go Out In Dublin This Week
Dec 24th, 2009 | By tabula rasa | Category: Out on the Town
Silly season is well and truly upon us now, so for anyone looking to head out and either dance or chill with their mates in between all the turkey eating and present giving, they will find something they want to do over the next week or so. And trust me, there’s bound to be at least one thing on here that’ll have you running for a train back to the big smoke.
Christmas Eve
If anyone feels the need to escape the madness for a quiet one or two, you have a couple of options open to you, the nicest probably being the Front Lounge, which is open from 12-6pm, serving mulled wine and mince pies.
The George will also be holding a Christmas Eve Gathering, and they’re telling you to “Get the last of your shopping and a pint before it’s too late!”
Stephen’s Night
If any of you have the ability to move on Stephen’s Night and want to head out, then the George or the Front Lounge are the places for you. The George is hosting its usual Saturday night Beauty Spot Karaoke inside with hosts Davina and Veda, followed by Craic Out The Back with Les Girls. DJ Miguel Gonzalez will be playing until late. Admission is free before 11pm, and €10 afterwards. The Front Lounge from 6pm with DJ Terry Coughlighan and, as always, has no cover charge.
Sunday 27th
There is so much to do on the 27th, good luck trying to pick just one!
Starting with the classic Sunday night out, Shirley Temple Bar is hosting a Mega Bingo Show in the George from 10pm. As always, it’s free in before 11pm, and €8 afterwards. It has a line up of all your favourite drag stars from the past year, so the show is a must see! Followed by DJ Karen on the decks.
Bukkake (awful name, people change) is also back Sunday night with a “Christmas Spluuuuuuuuurge”. Described as a night for “club kids, fabulous freaks and party monsters”; it’s on this bank Holiday Sunday and not again for three months! Held in the The Spurty (Purty) Kitchen East Essex St in Temple bar, doors open at 9pm and the music will be going till 3am. Get there before 10pm though, as it’s free in before then and €10 after. There’s also a pretty great line up of DJs (Fionn Kidney, Mimi Rouge, Davina Devine, April Showers, DJ Rafa Mafra, Paddy Schaill and Rocky T. Delgado) so if you want to dance your socks off, here may be the place for you.
The Flounge will also be drawing in a crowd of post Christmas revelers with DJ Gerry Moore spinning the tunes all night.
I have saved the best for last though, as Dublin’s newest ladies night has its second outing. Minx will be held in Dragon on the 27th, with DJ Ruth blasting out the latest chart, pop, dance and commercial music one could hope for. Going from 10pm till late, if the last time is anything to go by, it’s going to be epic, so get yourselves down to it. Admission is €7, €6 with Student ID.
Tuesday 29th
In case any of you have any energy left by Tuesday, GLITZ has their holiday special in Break for the Border. Doors open at 11pm, with a champagne reception for as long as it lasts, 10 free Glitz passes (valid any Tuesday in 2010) for the first 100 people in, and a free draw for all in attendance with 10 prizes to be won during the night. DJ Fluffy will be playing the greatest pop and dance hits of the Noughties, so get over there and dance, dance, dance! Admission is €6 before midnight or with concession/student ID, and €9 otherwise.
New Year’s will be as mental as it is every year, and there are plenty of choices for you this night too. So if you venture forth from a gaff party that night, this is what you can do:
Pantibar seems like it could be an interesting place to be, with Twiggy having a Brazilian party in the basement. In the words of Panti, “Brazilian nut Twiggy and her sexy mocha-skinned stable of Brazilian trannies and go-go boys take over for the night, so bring lube.” Free in all night!
The George is celebrating New Year’s with Davina’s Pretty in Pink New Year’s Party. We are told to “Ring in 2010…Not in Red, but in Pink!” Doors from 8pm, tickets are €10 and can be purchased in The George. Pink clothing is, apparently, optional.
The Front Lounge will be ringing in the New Year with DJ Terry Coughlighan spinning the tunes for the night.
Spice is on in The Dragon on New Year’s Eve too, with DJ Ruth and DJ Davina pumping out the tunes, and the usual Spice shenanigans with Victoria and the Spice dancers. Doors open from 10pm, free before 10, €6 before 11pm, and €8 after 11pm.
Happy partying all, no doubt I’ll run into you at some point!
