Stonewall announce list of 2010 gay-friendly employers
UK LGBTQ group Stonewall have published its top 100 employers for gay staff for 2010. Over 7,000 employers participated in the largest ever survey of its kind. Based on random indicators the survey showed that
staff satisfaction levels were highest at the top ranking organisations in the Index. Gay staff working at the top 25 workplaces reported a satisfaction level almost 10 per cent higher than workplaces outside the Top 100
so who were the top three I hear you ask, well here you go:
- IBM
- Hampshire Constabulary
- Ernst & Young
According to the history books this is not IBM’s first time to top this poll, in fact, they have now topped it twice in four years, which I have to say I find impressive.
According to Stonewall Chief Executive, Ben Summerskill:
‘Competition was fiercer than ever to secure a place on the 2010 Top Employers List, we received more entries than any previous year from employers who understand and have benefited from Stonewall’s research which found that gay people are far more likely to buy goods or services from companies they know are gay-friendly. The Index is a powerful tool used by Britain’s 1.7 million gay employees and 150,000 gay university students to decide where to take their talent and skills.’ (link)
Another interesting find is how well the police force did in the survey. In fact, no less than five police forces are on the top part of the list and that is a great turn up. As you can see, second place went to Hampshire Constabulary but they are not alone. Kent, Merseyside, West Midlands and the Metropolitan Police were placed in the Top 20 and a further six forces earned places in the Top 50.
I think it’s great to have a list like this because I like to purchase from companies who are gay friendly and stay clear of those that are not. This list gives us a fair indication of where to spend our money if that choice comes up.
