Get to the Ring

Valentine’s Day sucks serious ass. There, I said it. Some people get stressed out by it, others lose their minds in anger. Well ladies, there is a very healthy way to express this anger – plan a trip to see a heroine do what she does best next weekend.

Get thee to The National Stadium in Dublin and watch Katie Taylor kick some butt. Ok, no kicking…but she’ll be doing her stuff in the Women’s National Championships, which she has never won, oddly enough.

This is a great, and extremely rare, opportunity to see our Katie box in her home town because, as we all know, the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) doesn’t know what to do with her. They seem to go by a ‘treat em mean, keep em keen’ philosophy. Unfortunately, their handling of Katie could mean she moves to the professional arena sooner than the Olympics we all think she’ll win.

Katie will fight as part of the Women’s National Championships in the Ringside Club at the National Stadium from February 23 to 25. I called and was told that tickets are on sale at the door and are “usually around a tenner”.

The lead image and thumbnail of Katie were taken by Thomas Butler and appeared in The Red Bulletin.
