LoveLab at Science Gallery
Valentine’s Day may be over, but the LoveLab continues!
LoveLab is an exhibition at Trinity‘s Science Gallery in Dublin exploring everything to do with lurve. And it’s not just any exhibition: those who visit are invited to take part in actual scientific experiments. Just call yerself a guinea pig!
What lies behind those butterflies you feel when you fall in love? What makes one person’s dream date a nightmare for another? Does romance really exist or do our genes precondition us to seek out particular partners? Love has been the inspiration for songwriters, poets and artists from the beginning of time but now scientists are suggesting that it’s all a matter of chemistry. Join Science Gallery’s month long LOVE LAB to help us reveal the science of desire – opening on February 11th and running until March 12th 2010.
PLEASE NOTE THAT LOVE LAB is a LAB IN THE GALLERY where we ask you to participate in real, publishable research. To do this you must register and fill in consent forms – this may take some time and you may experience some delays at busy times on the weekends. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask for you patience.
LoveLab was the launched last Wednesday, 10th February 2010, and has since been hectic. We spoke to Anja at the Science Gallery to find out if LoveLab is just for the ‘tros, or if there’s room for us ‘mos. And there is!
She told us that LoveLab features a range of research experiments on desire and attraction – and that sexual orientation is not an issue.
The only experiment where this is slightly different is to do with the experiment using androstenone, which is a male pheromone that straight women and possibly gay men can smell, and it would affect their rating of the guy in terms of attractiveness. As women don’t produce this pheromone, lesbians are not likely to be attracted to this particular pheromone.
So in short – there are plenty of experiments to try out and the LoveLab team hopes to see everyone at Science Gallery during the exhibition!
- LoveLab at Science Gallery continues until March 12th 2010.
