Spamtastic Duo

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about the best lesbian couples on the telly, asking you who were your favourite. You could’ve smacked me in the ass and called me Mary when the results came in. I know that The L Word was popular and, for some people, the only lezzers ever on television, but Bette and Tina ran away with the vote.
There has to be a caveat here, even though Tibette got 56% of the votes, it seems we were pinged on a fan forum so they spammed us mightily and voted like it was going out of fashion. Having said that, the next couple were at 20% of the vote so, even if you agree that 56% is weighted too heavily to be accurate, Tibette won fair and square. It begs the question, why?
Could it be that on our poll just four of the couples ended up happy, and Tibette were the pair most people knew, the others being Olivia & Natalia (Guiding Light), Helen & Nikki (Bad Girls) and Maca & Esther (Hospital Central). Is it the case that we all want happy endings?
In the mix was sex and friendship in the form of Alice & Dana (The L Word) and no sex but lots of friendship with Xena and Gabrielle and the other miserable couples who ended up either with one of them dead or straight.
One the one hand, this mixture shows how limited the representations of lesbians are, but let’s not harp on about that too much, so we could be here all day. Things seems to be getting better as the most recent couples aren’t dying but are alive and well. Don’t ask for much do we?
Here was I thinking lesbians loved a bit of drama in their lives and, by extension on television, but it seems all we want is to have a great job, settle down, have a baby, have an affair, break up and get back together again.
On the serious side, however, the results show that we want to see happy lesbians on television, characters who find love and who stick together through it all. The over-whelming vote for Tibette, with Olivia & Natalia from Guiding Light in second place, suggests that we’re not the miserable old moaners that the media think we are, but romantic, loving people who are living as full a life as our straight counterparts. Can we please see this more on television? All wrapped up in some drama of course.
Just as a footnote: Tibette lovers, please, please, please stop voting! We know you love them and many different languages.

Was not a bit surprised Tibette won, they own YouTube and everyone seems to love them. I was amazed Calle and Arizona didn’t rank higher considering they are very happy and still in a mainstream show today.
I may be strung up for saying it but I never liked Tibette in the L Word, watching the show I never cared what happened them at all. I was more interested in storylines involving the likes of Alice or Helena, I liked the funny stories and the freindships. I guess I am now officially weird
I am in shock reading Gooner’s comment, what’s not to like about Tibette?

I shouldn’t be surprised coming from an Arsenal fan – sorry had to be said.He He
Tibette made The L Word and with the help of Youtube they live on in the creative music video’s so it’s no wonder they were voted the best couple .
p.s. that photo of JB is hot, no wonder they won
