Team Ireland at Gay Games VIII

Be part of Team Ireland this summer in Cologne!
(Plus, plenty of dates for your diaries – pens and mobile devices at the ready!)

The Out in Ireland LGBT sports network brings us news of this year’s Gay Games VIII, taking place this year in Cologne (or Köln, whichever ye’re havin’ yerself), from 31st July – 7th August.

Team Ireland will be there in force with athletes and supporters from around Ireland. So far, we have soccer teams from Cork, Waterford and Dublin, badminton, squash and tennis players, golfers, triathletes, basketball referees, swimmers and many more signed up from Cologne.

While unfortunately, rowing is not part of the sports programme there may, however, be an informal rowing tour on Sunday, 1st August, on the Rhine. More details will follow as soon as they become available.

Many of us rowers, of course, are sporty types and heading over the the Gay Games to participate in other sports: running, squash, triathlon, etc.

To help everyone with their planning, there are information evenings this week in Dublin and Cork:

DUBLIN: This Wednesday 24th March, 8:00pm at Panti Bar, Capel St.

A short video presentation and an opportunity to meet other athletes such as Nick Flanagan heading to the Gay Games.

CORK: This Thursday, 25th March, 6.30pm at the Council Chamber in City Hall, hosted by Cllr. Dara Murphy, Mayor of Cork

Join athletes such as Yvonne Delaney and others heading to Cologne. While this is an invitation only event, please text 087-765-1366 if you would like to attend. Media in attendance include RED FM, The Examiner and others.

In Rowing news:

DUBLIN: OUTROWERS MINI OPEN DAY – THIS SUNDAY 28TH

Rowing instructor, Sinéad, will lead one more OutRowers introductory session this Sunday, 28th March, before she starts the next ‘Learn-To-Row’ programme immediately after Easter.

If you can make this Sunday, just let us know you’re coming. It starts at noon and feel free to bring a friend. For details on location and what to bring, click here. Don’t forget the clocks go forward one hour this weekend!

(Note that there will be no rowing on Easter Sunday, 4th April.)

See you soon on the river! And visit OutRowers this week if you’d like to know more about Team Ireland!
