A Suppa Earl Gae
Good afternoon readers, it’s been a while since I sat down with a hot cuppa and surfed around for a bit, bringing you some news and views from the wonderful web. We’ll being with an horrific story that has been doing the rounds on gay websites. Sonoma County CA separates elderly gay couple and sells all of their worldly possessions
Clay and his partner of 20 years, Harold, lived in California. Clay and Harold made diligent efforts to protect their legal rights, and had their legal paperwork in place–wills, powers of attorney, and medical directives, all naming each other. Harold was 88 years old and in frail medical condition, but still living at home with Clay, 77, who was in good health.
Not only did Mr Greene lose his partner, who died alone in the hospital because the health care workers refused to allow him to visit, he had to suffer the indignity of being put in to a nursing home with all his and his partners sold off.
Without authority, without determining the value of Clay and Harold’s possessions accumulated over the course of their 20 years together or making any effort to determine which items belonged to whom, the county took everything Harold and Clay owned and auctioned off all of their belongings. Adding further insult to grave injury, the county removed Clay from his home and confined him to a nursing home against his will. The county workers then terminated Clay and Harold’s lease and surrendered the home they had shared for many years to the landlord.
A trial date has been set for July 16, 2010 in the Superior Court for the County of Sonoma. This story is so tragic and the treatment of this couple by the county and health officials is nothing short of criminal.
We go from current affairs to sport where Gary Neville seem to be filling up the tabloid columns this week by kissing Paul Schloes. The Guardian offers an opinion piece on it here
That Neville’s big snog has made such a splash might say something about the continued existence of a homophobic undercurrent in the UK beyond the football fields.
Finally some good news for lesbians and lesbian mammies! The Telegraph reports:
A lesbian couple have become the first same-sex parents in Britain to jointly sign the birth certificate of their child.
They were able to take advantage of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 which came into effect at the beginning of this month.
Sticking with happy lesbians, its so rare these days in the media, we head to Argentina where Norma Castillo and Ramona Arévalo were married after 30 years together, then told their marriage was null and then that judge’s order has been struck down and a gay group is filing a civil and criminal complaint against the interfering judge for malfeasance.
Love it
Glee, we all love it here at Gaelick HQ, and what’s not to love? Singing, dancing, gayness AND Jane Lynch. Although I have to say Britney is fast becoming a favourite
They were among the recipients of a GLAAD award on Saturday in California. There to accept the award were the show’s creator Ryan Murphy and the fabulous Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt.
Murphy promised that crowd that Colfer’s character, Kurt Hummel, would “never be the victim”.
All you little monsters out there who were making Poker Faces at the 02 in Feb, she’s coming back. Gaga for those of you not in the know, is making a return to these shores on Oct 26th.
Tickets go on sale at 9 tomorrow morning. Have your cards at the ready, it’s going to be a sell out. One of the best live shows I’ve seen.
Finally, we have a lady looking for love. A lady meerkat that is
Small? Furry? Looking for love? The owners of a lonely meerkat hope to find the perfect partner on the internet.
If you own a meerkat and you think they have the same interest as Lily, you can reach her at Meerkat Match. Notice no mention of the required gender; meerkats are so far ahead of humans.
And that’s a wrap folks!

There has since been more revelations, it is not as clearcut as first reported: http://www.akawilliam.com/were-gay-seniors-harold-and-clay-separated-by-county-because-of-domestic-violence-not-because-they-were-gay/
