Gaelick highlights

At last the weekend is upon us!  But what have you missed in Gaelick-land this week?  Here’s a quick round-up:

On Monday, Gooner brought us news of what’s happening and when around the island for this year’s Pride festivals.  Kind thanks to UK Gay News who added the run-down to their daily headlines!

HAL wrote a lurrrvely reveiw of Dublin restaurant, The Farm, on Tuesday – which inadvertantely caused some people to drool on Twitter.  Apologies!

It was all go on Wednesday, with details of the final deliberations in the Committee Stage of the Civil Partnership Bill 2009 flagged (deliberations took place on Thursday).  CanuckJacq wrote about persecuted Malawi couple, Steven Monjeza and and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, and in particular about how the fact that Tiwonge identifies as a woman was largely omitted from media reports until very recently.  Marina Diamandis – of Marina and the Diamonds fame – featured in our latest Álainn or Apallin’.

On Thursday, HAL wrote about the commemoration of 40 years of women’s liberation, conveniently listing all of the things that, until recently, the law said women cannot do.  Our webmaster looked forward to that evening’s Eurovision qualifier, where Niamh Kavanagh was set to sing her wee heart out.  And that she did, qualifying Ireland’s entry for tonight’s final.  (It all kicks off in PantiBar in mere hours!)

Finally, Tabula Rasa highlighted Ireland’s first ever LGBT music festival, MILK, due to take place on 14th August this year, from midday to midnight.  Many thanks to AfterEllen’s Trish Bendix, who spread the good news!
