Going Wilde for Olivia

Ireland is famous for one gay Wilde, but is becoming more and more famous for a straight one. Olivia Wilde has just been voted Uimhir a hAon in AfterEllen’s Hot 100.  She may have been born in the States and have grown up there, but this lady considers herself  to be Irish-ish, having both US and Irish citizenship. So we’ll happily claim her as our own.

The 26 year-old was born Olivia Cockburn (I’m sure you can get a cream for that) but changed her name to that of some bloke called Oscar.

It was The O.C. that brought Olivia to our attention, when she played the role of bisexual gorgeousness in the form of Alex Kelly. She may have gotten to snog Mischa Barton but her character also went a bit loopy. Another day another stereotype.

From there jumped from one ill-fated TV show to another until, in 2007, she she hit the big-time playing another bisexual; Dr Remy Hadley aka Thirteen, in House.

Olivia Wilde in scrubs. Give me a moment.

As the ladies in AfterEllen put it:

Whether Olivia is sporting her natural blond locks, or smoldering as a brunette, it’s that face that gets us where we live. With cheekbones that were obviously sculpted by angels and eyes that make us forget our own names, Olivia continues to captivate, fascinate and infatuate. Is there a doctor in the house? Because we’re having heart palpitations.

  • I find her a bit…samey.

  • Her eyes are kind of lupine. It’s hard to resist any lady with wolfish charms.

  • Samey? What on earth is samey?
Sue – apparently she’s married to Tao Ruspoli, whose father was the 9th Prince of Cerveteri. His older half-brother Francesco Ruspoli is the 10th Prince.
