Suit Up
Recently for my birthday I got a voucher for a large clothes shop from my family. I went in and had a look around with my mate and all I kept saying to her was how everything was to girly for me and how I wish the stuff in the men’s section fit me properly. After pushing her patience to the limit we eventually got a shirt but if they made the men’s clothes cut to fit me we’d have been in and out in ten minutes. It appears I am not the only woman who thinks this and although I wouldn’t be the suit wearing type either I am happy to see that at least one woman has taken this idea and run with it.
Shaz Riley describes herself as a “butch lesbian” and has recently launched her new clothes line which she aims at those of us who like the cut of a suit over the frill of a blouse. The Butch Clothing Company describes its aim as
to provide suits, shirts and trousers that will ultimately fit a butch woman perfectly
Based in Brighton the company has everything from t-shirts to belts to watches but their forte is formal wear. It is a company set up to provide a real service for women who are over looked by the fashion industry. You can even meet with a member of the design team to tell them what it is you are looking for and they will tailor it for you.
Shaz has a lot to be proud of and says
All those years of having to wear men’s clothes will be behind me now. BCC will make a lot of butch women happy. If they have ever had to put up with negativity from people because of being butch, my clothes will give them the confidence to hold their heads up high
I can imagine a lot of people attending events, such as civil partnerships, will be delighted to learn that such a company exists. Here’s hoping this company takes off. I am sick of the lack of choice those of us who don’t like mainstream fashion have on the high street.

Oh honey, it won’t make just the butches happy. It’s great news for femmes who appreciate butches in suits.
Not only butches (and their admirers!) but those of use who simply prefer not to wear typically feminine clothes. I’m not butch but I’d love a nicely fitted suit.
You know what its a great idea but i think if she throws in the casual wear it could really do well
@ TomMurphySuits – You never know. So, will your company cater for women’s-wear?
No -We will be keeping it to men
@ tommurphysuits – Ta for your reply! Ah, that’s a shame, but it was worth checking!
I know what you mean about casual wear. If there was a place to get mens casual clothes to fit a woman I’d be there
