Review: RIP

As you all know, there was much hype here on Gaelick last week surrounding RIP (Rock.Indie.Pop), which took place last Friday in the Button Factory in Templebar. I, of course, had to head along and see if it could measure up to expectations. I was delighted that the night not only lived up to the hype, but managed to surpass it.

When my friends and I arrived at around 11.30pm, we were amused by the amount of people trying to persuade randomers to come into the club with them just so they could get the 2-4-1! After dropping our coats and bags, we got drinks and managed to bag a table right by the dance floor.

Scarlett Nymph was the first DJ up, and she set the tone for the night with some epic tunes. Our only complaint is that people didn’t start dancing early enough, and we weren’t gonna be the first ones up, so we chose to rock out in our seats instead. When her set finished up at 1am, The Late Fragments took to the stage. They were really good, but we took the chance to check out the smoking area and see what else the venue has to offer, as we’re veterans of the Temple Bar Music Centre and wanted to see could the refurbishment measure up. The smoking area is slightly cramped, and we definitely missed the outdoor one that used to be upstairs in TBMC, but it serves its purpose-smoking and random chats.

As for the rest of the venue, the doorman was helpful when it came to guest lists and special offers, the bouncers were friendly and the bar staff were highly efficient. AND the toilets were well kept, which is always a plus point for a venue in my opinion.

DJ Sean John was on the decks for the rest of the night after some CD and t-shirt giveaways. He played an absolute blinder, resulting in a mosh pit in our area of the dance floor after he played Smells Like Teen Spirit, I Predict A Riot, Mr. Brightside and Standing in the Way of Control in a row. I swear I thought I was going to have an asthma attack at one point!

The atmosphere was amazing, and I’d highly recommend that all Gaelick readers check out the next one, which takes place on the 29th of October.
