Gaelick Highlights
Goodness, has it been mid-July since our last round-up? Yes! Yes, it has. If you’re not marching for marriage today (or even if you are), read on!
Last week
We brought you the latest in our The Real L Word series, with recaps of episodes four, five, six and seven. HAL loses her mind so you don’t have to!
- Er. Clitter. Apparently.
We brought you news of the Irish rugby team in this year’s Rugby World Cup, and introduced you to the team. Friday saw our first match, against England. We fought mightily, but England were the stronger team and had a comfortable win. The next game is on Tuesday (24th August) at 4:30pm against the USA. The tournament continues until 5th September.
- There was talk of the lesbians and our subtext coming to tellyboxes in a new TV series, Rizzoli and Isles, based on novels by Tess Gerristen.
It’s Limerick Pride! 5th-12th September! Be there or be square!
- It’s time for Johntroversy and discussion of the case against marriage equality. Go!
- Were you at the MILK Music Festival? Relive it! Were you unable to go? Read all about it!
Sisters’ Boutique, a new women’s night in Dublin, kicked off on 19th August. Details anseo!
- Ah, it’s lovely lovely Kathryn Thomas. Isn’t she lovely? Vote here!
- Dublin Pride wants your feedback! Click here to get thee to their survey.
- It’s Angie. It’s espionage. It’s bonkers “plot”. It’s Salt!
The week before that
In other sports news, we brought you some of the highlights from the Gay Games VIII in Cologne, where Team Ireland took home a huge haul of medals. We’re still counting!
- There was a review of Emma Donoghue’s Booker-nominated Room. I cannot wait to get my paws on it for reading.
- Mojitos! Cuba! Olé! Read our review of Havana restaurant in Dublin.
- Men; closet cases; rampant homophobia and racism. Yes, the English football season resumes! All you need to know about the upcoming Premiership is ici.
Becoming the Mammy, Part 3. The latest thrills and spills of trying to conceive.
- A suppa your favourite random gay-related news. Les-tastic.
- Here’s our review of Mother, the weekly club night which began earlier this summer, in support of GCN Forever.
- Lesbians. Bums. Bum coverings. It’s a perfectly legitimate poll question. Honest.
Before that again
- One of our newer writers here on Gaelick wrote about the sexism of the Road Safety Authority’s “He Drives, She Dies” campaign. Do you have any thoughts?
There was random lesbian-esque news with sporty Irish woman, Derval O’Rourke and sporty Irish gays going to the Gay Games in Cologne; Claire Balding taking on A. A. Gill and The Sunday Times; and Darlene from Roseanne (aka Sara Gilbert).
- We brought you some more of everyone’s favourite Canadian pixies – because you can never have too much Tegan & Sara, eh?
- As part of our GAZE Film Festival series, we brought you: an overview of the GAZE programme; a review of And Then Came Lola; a review of the film, Cracks, ; and a review of Stonewall Uprising.
More surveys! This time from Munster lesbians at L.Inc. What are you waiting for? Go read and complete!
- We asked that question every lesbian can answer: Who hasn’t dated a psycho?
- There were celebrations in California when the judge in Perry v Schwarzenegger ruled in favour of the plaintiffs, who were challenging the legitimacy of Proposition 8, the ban on marriage introduced by referendum in 2008. Marriage equality still proves elusive, however, while the case is being appealed.
And finally…
AMACH! That’s the name of the recently formed LGBT organisation in Galway. They are also looking from feedback, so if you’re a Galway gay, do get in touch!
- Bunny’s Hutch continued in PantiBar, featuring faux queen fixture DialEmma in her return to the stage.
- We had our interview with Dublin musician, Leanne Harte. Keep an eye out for her, she’s one to watch!
You have been warned: the Christians are organising. In fact, it’s already the case that the wingnut conservative Christians are highly organised – and financed. We need to get our asses in gear, people.
- Dublin’s new club night, Rock.Indie.Pop was reviewed after its second installment. And it seems it was a cracker. Keep an eye for the next one on 29th October!
Mm… Joan Jett… She’s álainn… Or is she? You be the judge!
