Limerick Pride Parade 2010

Do you feel like the summer is over?  Rain hangs in the clouds and the evenings are getting a little darker?  Well fear not because Limerick Pride is here.  As long as you can drag your mates to a Pride festival you know the summer is still on and this year’s Limerick Pride will take place from Sunday September 5th till the 12th, so why not get organised and squeeze the last drop out of the summer?

There are lots of really interesting and fun events including the women’s night at The Bailey on Thursday September 9th as well as a Trad night on Tuesday (Sept 7th) but for many the real treat will be Niamh Kavanagh playing live at Dolans warehouse on Saturday night (Sept 11th).

As with most Prides however, the real highlight is the parade, this will take place on Saturday Sept 11th.  It leaves at 1pm sharp and is followed by a Block Party at Bank Place, Trinity Rooms at 2pm.  The organisers have said

[we] invite you to bring along any banners, flags or colourful costumes that you may have with you on the day and also invite you to check out our official website for information on where to stay and information about our parade and block party

The parade route is shown here

There is always something very special about Pride festivities.  It is one of the events in the LGBTQ calendar that people really make an effort to participate in and as such, it’s a great opportunity to bump into old friends or catch up with that person you keep meaning to get in contact with again.

Prides are all about remembering those who came before us and fought for our rights and also to celebrate who we are as individuals and as a community.  So get out there and get involved.
