Don’t Stop

Those of you who, like me, lose many hours of your life on the internet, may be familiar with Jill Bennet and Cathy DeBuono (right). The twosome of out gay actors, sick of reading awful screenplays and looking for gay roles, were chatting to their mate Ann Noble, who thought “I can write better than this”. So she did. The trio created their own production company, DynaKit Productions, with the thruppence they had between them and set about creating a web series about lesbians, by lesbians. The result was a web series called We Have to Stop Now, which is now available on DVD.

DeBuono and Bennet play partners, Dyna and Kit, who both work as relationship counsellors. They just happen to be having relationship problems of their own and are seeing therapist Susan (Suzanne Westenhoefer), to try to work things out. Just as they decide to split, their book How to Succeed in Marriage without Even Trying comes out and is a huge success. Our couple have to pretend to be living in bliss in order to sell the book.

The inter-play between uptight Dyna and emotional Kit is priceless, with both actors clearly revelling in their roles. What makes We Have to Stop Now so enjoyable, though, is that we all know that these two are meant to be together. You can’t help but be cheering them on. Ok, they can each be difficult and neither is perfect, but they fit, they iron out each other’s creases.

The writing is excellent and the acting flawless. And it’s lesbian. What’s not to like? I’m obviously not the only one who thinks so as We Have To Stop Now has just gone live with its second online season. Check it out here. This time there shall be a galaxy of gay stars making guest appearances.

To catch up, you can get the first season here.
