Self Hatred

Ranker.com has updated its list of Top Anti-Gay Politicians who are gay. It’s written with well-warranted glee, after all these men used hatred as politics. After reading the list, though, you get an overwhelming sense of sadness.

Why did these men use homophobia of all things, to empower themselves? Did they know that they were gay and didn’t care; power is all? Did they start on this political path, realise their sexuality and keep their heads down? Do they, even now, acknowledge that they are gay? Or do they think that they were caught having a dalliance? Gay people are bum-boys, dykes and bisexuals; not good, upstanding men to like to be fellated by a rent boy once in a while.

If they believe that the gay community don’t deserve equal rights, then they mustn’t consider themselves gay. Or am I talking too sanely? Am I being naive?

Are these men really power-hungry haters, willing to use homophobia to get where they can? Willing to marry and father children, not to hide some sort of shame at who they are, but to follow the party line and show a good front.

It’s interesting on the week of Tyler Clementi’s (left) tragic suicide, that we have this list. Those who drove him to his death used homophobia to elevate their social status, they used hatred to become popular. Just as these politicians used the gay community, used homophobia, used gay men to fulfill their sexual urges.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of being used. I’m sick of our community, and those vulnerable within it, being used as a joke, being seen as less than human. It’s time for us to get angry, let’s see who’s laughing then.

  • I’m not sure how these men can not know they are gay, as you put it, but I agree that anyone who does know they are gay should have respect for themselves and who they are.  Self loathing is dangerous enough without using homophobia as a cover

  • This is the thing — homophobia kills. Homophobia is especially potent in those terrified of their own homosexuality. They’re the trapped animals of the political world — they hurt because they’re hurting.

They lash out from fear and they make the world less safe for others because they believe the world to be unsafe for them.

These guys will always be there until homophobia is dealt with on a societal level. They’re just symptoms.
