I agree that even though the new amendment still protects LGBT rights with the clause, “discriminatory reasons on any basis”, why was only the sexual orientation reference removed and not all of the others? All are covered under the aforementioned quotation? I think that sexual orientation deserves specific mention in this resolution and I cannot help but assume that there are ulterior motives of the groups that support this. And yes, I am upset about it.

I’m sure the reference to ‘savages’ includes those American missionaries who are busily whipping up homophobic hatred throughout Africa. Although the American queer rights movement has made great progress, American homophobes have been active pushing their hatred and ignorance around the world and should not be let off the hook for their role in homophobic bloodshed in any corner of the world, particularly in places where they also dole out badly needed aid along with their venom. And trust me, they are seeking out the poorest and most desperate communities upon which to inflict themselves.

Plus, this ignores all the very positive developments – such as with LGBT refugees at UNHCR and the work and words of Ban Ki-Moon – which have not had anything like this publicity.

Hi James. I have to say, I agree with you completely. My view is that perpetuating the lie that “The UN says killing gays is okay?” distracts from that very point; it distracts from the subtleties and manoeuvring in the background that led to this disturbing development. (And, of course, the devil is in the detail.)

The point is African and MIddle Eastern countries are executing homosexuals men and women. That is why it had to be specifically identified. By changing the wording it allows these savages to state that sexual preference is a choice and push their moronic belief that their fairy stories are good enough reason for these savages to murder innocent people.
