Ladies Earphones – Give me a Break!
Sometimes companies come out with products made specifically for us ladies and you think to yourself, ok, I can see where you are coming from. Things like deodorant, jewelry and, of course, underthings are products we don’t mind having designed with us females in mind. However, for everyone of those there are a dozen others that make us ask why. Why do they make separate razors or moisturisers or even watches? Apart from outrageously over charging us ladies there doesn’t seem to be much point in going to the trouble. After all, most things, when you get right down to it, are unisex in nature and one design really does fit all.
One such product is earphones. Yes, you read that right. The humble earphone is what it is, it does what it says on the tin as it were. However, the folks over at Altec Lansing have created a line of headphones with women in mind. No, I’m not kidding, they really have. What a load of crap! Are our earphone needs really that different from our male counterparts? Have you ever seen or heard of a women complaining that her earphones are not feminine enough? I mean where do these people get these stupid ideas?
According to the hype, these earphones are smaller (to fit our delicate ears) as well as designed to mimic the look of
earrings. At this point it is difficult to keep writing without using bold words. These puppies carry a price along with their shiny ladylike carrying-case, the Bliss Platinum MZX736, for example, is $70. Yes, for earphones! I don’t care how cutsie they are, that is such a ludicrous price that any women who buys them deserves to be ripped off. Fear not though, they do have earphones for $50 and $30 so … oh wait, that’s also crazy!
As a woman I am used to companies trying to overcharge me for the “female version” of a product that is as unisex as a persons ears, but this one has to be right up there with the most ridiculous and unnecessary. It’s not like they play the music so much better that your periods don’t hurt any more, or that the music out these days has lyrics. They are just earphones for God’s sake, it’s still the same old crap you’re listening to.

To be honest I’m sure the reasoning behind these earphones isn’t a sexist one, it’s a marketing strategy. Our ears are just as capable of hearing the same level of sound as males so realky what they’re doing is targeting a specific group of cosmetic buyers. If you think about it, how many girls and women WOULD see these ‘specifically designed’ earphones and think ‘oh that’s perfect! Exactly what I want in an earphone!’?
Lots of people buy based on how a product looks, and sadly many women are susceptible to this, paying way over the amount it should cost just because it ‘looks nice’. How do I know this? I’ve done it.
You’re right too. Any woman who buys them DOES deserve to be ripped off.
Erm, my calendar says it’s August 16th, not April 1st…

You know those Gilette Venus razors with the replaceable heads? The new heads click perfectly onto the handle of my brother’s Gilette men’s razor. They’re basically the exact same product in different colours, and the women’s one costs about 4 euro more.
Great case in point Julie, we are ripped off big time. Hair cuts etc are just priced through the roof
A fool and her money are easily parted..!
So it’s not just in UK that women get ripped off with Hair cuts.
My Dad still finds it so strange how us girls have to pay 40euro and up for a haircut when he can get his
cut for six euro…I know money’s tight atm but…can’t see myself taking my chances on a six euro cut. Lol
