In the bleak midwinter…
Ah, the winter solstice. It could be the ultimate hipster holiday: “Yeah, well I celebrated Christmas before Jesus was even born, y’know roysh?”
Literally tens of people turned out yesterday morning (okay, hundreds, then) to mark the shortest day of the year at Newgrange – an event ruined by clouds obscuring the sun (hopefully not a bad omen; things were a bit better in previous years).
Seemingly, however, the winter solstice this year officially falls today, the 22nd December.
And so, to help you through the shortest day of the year – and, more importantly, to welcome the days getting longer (in your face, bleak midwinter!) – here are some sun-themed songs to get you dancing naked around the nearest bonfire and stone circle.
Enjoy, you dirty, hell-bound heathens!
