Teachers and civil partnership or marriage
- Aoife Neary, a secondary school teacher and Doctoral researcher at the University of Limerick, has been in contact regarding her current research – and you can get involved!
What is this research about?
The experiences of lesbian and gay teachers who are considering, planning or have had a civil partnership or civil marriage.
What are the benefits of the research?
This research attempts to break some of the silences that have surrounded lesbian and gay teachers in Ireland in the past. Civil partnership creates a new space and opportunity to explore how lesbian and gay teachers are negotiating their way around issues related to their sexuality in their school environments. The new knowledge created by this research will inform key stakeholders in the Irish education system about the realities of the everyday lives of lesbian and gay teachers in Ireland.
What are you being invited to do?
As a teacher myself, I am very aware of the busy nature of teachers’ lives so participation in this research will be efficient and flexible! It will involve an interview with me (1 hour) and a reflective task on your everyday life (decided by you).
