Dublin to host IGLFA in 2013
Dublin will host the International Gay European Football Championships next summer having won in a bidding process which involved several European cities. The Dublin Devils, Ireland’s gay football team, were instrumental in bringing the prestigious tournament to our shores and have said they expect the matches to bring around 1,000 LGBT visitors to Dublin, can’t argue with that can we. The event will take place at the Dublin City University Sports Grounds from June 13th to 16th and no less than 32 teams from 15 European countries will take part.
It’s a great achievement for the Dublin Devils who took part in the long campaign and had their bid described as “first class” by Klaus Heusslein, the IGLFA Europe President.
This event is not just for the boys, Ireland’s ladies will be represented by The Phenoix Tiger, who have been invited, by the Dublin Devils, to oversea the women’s event, nice one boys. So there is no excuse for us lesbian/bi ladies not to take a wander down to the DCU sports grounds next June to check out the form, so to speak!
The event is bound to be a success, I was at the Rugby event a few years ago that the Emerald Warriors brought to Dublin and it was fantastic, no doubt the Devils and the Tigers will do us every bit as proud.
Congrats to the Devil’s on securing the tournament from everyone here at Gaelick Towers, it’s a wonderful achievement.
