GAZE Film Fest: Married in Spandex Dublin premiere!

“Married in Spandex” follows Rachel Turanski and Amanda Kole as they navigate their way from their home in the City of Brotherly Love to the town of Ames, Iowa for a celebration like you’ve never seen. Told simply, despite the complicated questions its story raises, “Married in Spandex” is part road movie, part political documentary, and all love story.
The film gets its Dublin premiere at this weekend’s GAZE film festival, which runs from 2nd-6th August at The Light House cinema.
Rachel and Amanda are determined to make their wedding day a unique and memorable affair. But, at a time when every same-sex wedding is seen as a political act, will everyone be cheering Amanda and Rachel’s offbeat nuptials?
“Married in Spandex” is a hilarious personal story that explores love, relationships, gay matrimony, and nuanced perspectives on same-sex marriage and (of course) spandex.
Turanski told City Paper:
It’s hard to explain to somebody who does not have any inkling of who Leslie Hall is or why a woman of my size would get married in a gold lamé spandex jumpsuit. Now I can say, “Just watch this. It’ll explain everything.”
I’m intrigued!
This is not the first time “Married in Spandex” has landed on Irish soil: The film had its European Premiere last October in Ireland’s real capital at the Cork Film Festival as part of the Outlook programme.
(D’ye remember? We had tickets for this very film to give away, thanks to the lovely people from Outlook. It really was special.)
Allison Kole’s documentary (she being a bridesmaid and sister of Amanda), co-directed with Devin Gallagher, has earned a clutch of awards, if you don’t mind. It was voted audience favorite at the film’s world premiere at QFest in Philadelphia, won the Jury award for best Iowa film at Hardacre Film Festival, and won Best Documentary at Out in The Desert Film Festival.
Get down to The Light House!
- Wait What Productions’ award winning documentary “Married in Spandex” screens on 6th August at 5:30pm in the Lighthouse Cinema.
