Sue Perkins Heading Out to BBC
Queen lesbot of the UK and Ireland, Sue Perkins (can we start calling her Super Kins?) is scripting and taking the lead role in a new comedy Heading Out, which, according to the BBC, is about a vet who is afraid to tell her parents that she’s a lesbian.
Sue is a Cretin!
BBC2 signed her up after they read a couple of pilot episodes earlier this year. She told Broadcast magazine that although at first the main character was not written with herself in mind, Perkins had eventually been selected as the best person to play the role. Mmmhmm.
I hadn’t intended to be in it but I kept being told ‘that’s you’ which wasn’t what I wanted to hear as I saw it as an annoying, cretinous character
Dawn French will star opposite Perkins woot! in the the six-part series began production in September and is due to be broadcast next year.
Perkins has described the project as being “a joy to work on”.
According to the Beeb’s website
Perkins plays Sara – a veterinarian so skilled she can spay a tortoise one-handed. She’s successful, she’s popular – there’s just one chink in her armour – she’s too scared to tell her parents she’s gay.
On the evening of her 40th birthday, Sara’s friends give her an ultimatum: either she tells her parents when they come to visit in six weeks’ time, or they will.
To help Sara achieve this goal, they’ve saved up to buy a series of sessions with Toria, the eccentric and mildly-qualified lifestyle coach / therapist, and so the countdown begins.
Sounds FAB!

Er I don’t get it, why is she Queen Lesbot of the UK and Ireland?? Does she have an Irish mammy??
OK, Shauna, you’re right, I got a bit excited
I’d take her as my Queen any day. I love Sue and I LOVE her in British Bake off (Food AND Sue Perkins? It’s heaven on TV).
