It’s happening. It’s finally happening. I am for the first time in my life looking forward to watching the Golden Globes. Normally nothing would interest me less than watching a thousand celebrities parade across a stage and dole out praise to each other for hours on end.
But this year I am going to watch the whole thing. Want to know why? Because this year, the Golden Globes are being presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, two of the funniest people on the planet.
If you have been alive and a human for the last two years, you’ll know they are taking over from Ricky Gervais, whose presenting style relied less on be charming and likeable and more on being a bit of a dick. This year, apparently, the powers that be have decided that maybe getting the worlds most obnoxious man to be mean spirited at people for a third year running wasn’t such a great idea.
I for one am delighted. Fey and Poehler are a match made in comedy heaven. They have been working together since they both started out in Chicago’s Second City improv group, moving from there to Saturday Night Live where they cohosted The Weekend Update, amongst other things. They have that easy familiarity with each other, which is helpful in a duo.
You don’t want a repeat of the Anne Hathaway/James Franco debacle. Oof. Now that was painful to watch.
Poehler and Fey are consistently funny together, and if past award show appearances are anything to go by, we are in for a treat. Fey has a tradition of funny award show bits with the cast of 30 Rock over the years, and presenting awards.
Both of these women are good at being funny on their feet, a skill they’ve honed throughout their careers (for evidence of this, check out , or just go ahead and search them on YouTube, I promise you won’t regret it) I already can’t wait!
